Is it possible to visit Notre-Dame de Paris?


Since the tragic fire on April 15, 2019, the question of the possibility of visiting Notre-Dame de Paris has been on everyone's minds. An iconic monument of the French capital, the cathedral attracts millions of visitors from around the world each year. Its majestic facade, sumptuous stained glass windows, and refined sculptures are integral parts of French history and identity.





The current state of Notre-Dame de Paris

The 2019 fire caused considerable damage to the cathedral. The wooden framework, dating back to the 12th century, was completely destroyed, leading to the collapse of the spire and the central part of the roof. The stained glass windows were also severely damaged, and much of the interior of the building was blackened by soot.


The restoration works

Since the fire, a large-scale restoration project has been underway at the site of Notre-Dame. The work focuses on securing the building, consolidating the walls and pillars, and cleaning the interior and exterior surfaces. A later phase of the project will involve the reconstruction of the framework and spire.





Access and visits

Due to restoration works, visiting the interior of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris is currently not possible. However, it is possible to admire the building from the outside and approach it on foot or by boat on the Seine River. Guided tours of the surroundings of the cathedral are also available.
