Toit de Paris Map of Paris

A POETIC AND ETHEREAL GRAPHIC DESIGN

We aim to narrate the story of the TOIT DE PARIS and unveil its origin to you.

That's why we've screen-printed the map of Paris directly onto the material.

For each sheet of zinc, we've marked the location where we discovered it.

Whether you're a resident of the capital or a tourist passing through, you'll be able to identify the original location of this piece of rooftop during a leisurely stroll through the streets of Paris.

A DECODED INSCRIPTION

This Paris map, designed by a graphic artist, includes:

  • A series of numbers corresponding to the precise geographical coordinates of the zinc sheet;

  • The year when the zinc sheet was installed and subsequently recycled;

  • A QR code to pinpoint the exact location of the sheet.

So to find your way make use of this city map and its QR code, available on the mobile application.

A FASHIONED VOLUME

The Parisian technique most commonly used to lay zinc is called batten roofing. Invented in the 19th century, it consists of connecting the zinc sheets by interposing a wooden batten. All Parisian buildings covered with zinc use this technique. It gives the Parisian roofs their particular "zebra" relief.

AN INGENIOUS BALANCE

We wanted clean lines that were light and airy.

We have experimented so that the TOIT DE PARIS doesn’t require a rigid support on which to rest. It is self-supporting thanks to the cleat folding.

EACH PIECE IS UNIQUE

The Eiffel Tower, the Sacré-Coeur, the Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Place de la Bastille, the Royal Palace, ….
So many monuments that make the City of Light one of the most beautiful capitals in the world. And if it is not possible to take all these buildings with you, you can always take a map of Paris retracing the main axes.
